Well, since I live in the clouds (American Airlines seat “x”) and work in
the clouds (Cloud computing/cloud storage, etc), it’s about time that I
finally join the blogosphere cloud and post.
Those that know me, know that I am seldom short for words, here, they can
stop listening whenever they want, a blessing I am sure (the operative
assumption that it is being read at all).
Thanks to Tommy T. and that bloody Twix commercial, I am now “published”.
Hopefully I will be able to post something that has some “merit” and this
will more than likely just be an avenue for me to preview my thoughts prior
to putting them in a presentation.
Thanks – after a week in our corporate National Sales Meeting to kick off
the year, I have to at least throw a thanks out to those I respect so much
and the reason I am still at Xiotech, other than the fact that I love it
here: Thanks Roger,... (more)
Xiotech Nerdfest 2010
The first day of Nerdfest discussed all the history of ISE (the game changing
storage element which is the child of the storage rockstars at Xiotech), the
day closed with pots and pots of green chili made by Steve Sicola (CTO,
Xiotech), awesome chili and needless to say there was plenty of heartburn
later that evening.
There was a great futures discussion with Jim McDonald (CSO, Xiotech), Steve,
Brian Reagan (SVP Marketing, Xiotech) and others, while the mass quantities
of chili were consumed (brownies needed to tame the heat, btw, hot is HOT).
The future ... (more)
I posted this a while back, but, caused some flack as to much leaked out at
the time..so, pulled it 5 minutes later. Here it is again, bigger and better.
With all the advances in systems, applications, connectivity, you see a
plethora of posts out there about how storage has not kept pace. In defense,
storage has kept pace, but in a different fashion than applications, systems,
or the connectivity. Storage has focused on getting more into a smaller
space, while that is good at first blush, it does not address the fact that
you need more and more performance out of what you just ma... (more)
After listening to the Wikibon discussion on FCoE yesterday, it really
spurred me to piece together a number of things that have been posted as of
late relating to storage access and the economies of storage.
I have been in the storage business for longer than I care to discuss, but,
it has always revolved around the economies ($ per something, that something
usually being capacity), with the economies of reality trailing the actual
sale…and subsequently requiring further purchases (or in the cae of a
generous vendor, free stuff….that usually doesn’t happen unless it’s
t-shirts,... (more)
After reading Jon Toigo’s blog this weekend, I had to add on in more than a
“comment”, as a follow on to the response from a Compellent
“architect”.
Jon was addressing, in “Tears of Storage”, a point that is in great
controversy in the storage industry and is being blog’ed about constantly
(@storagetexan, @storagewonk, @xiotech, to mention a few), that is storage
controller comparison and “features” that vendors offer. The
“architect’s” response was from a giddy brain washed user perspective,
and that is, “this is really cool and everyone should have it!”.
The reality of Dat... (more)
